Ommegang Three Philosophers: 23

Taste: 7 Finish: 8 Visual: 5 Aroma: 3
Total: 23

Three Philosophers is a Belgian-Style Quadrupel mixed with a cherry lambic. It pours well with a very deep ruby color. It has a full head. It has a very mild malt aroma with a bit of cherry.

It has a oddly creamy yet dry feel to it. There is mild dark chocolate here. A hint of caramel. Lots of sweet malt. Some ripe fruit from cherries to raisins. For me there is a bit too much carbonation even with the full head.

In the back and on the exhale is a very strong dark cherry flavor. There is a faint flavor of alcohol as well. Very nice.

It's a nice brew that is very complex. Reading other reviews, they peg this of top tier quality. I'm a little less impressed. All the flavors are subtle. I'd like a little more punch besides the dark cherry finish.
